Course description:
The intention of this course is that pre-service teachers will learn the values of and develop the skills to incorporate music in their future classrooms. To achieve that end, this course is performance based and each student will meet the objectives as prescribed in the individual lessons. The class offers basic elements of reading music and applying it to the piano keyboard, knowledge of instrument families and leading songs as well as integrating music into core subject areas. Students also will be exposed to various genres of music and movement as well as music from other cultures. Participants will apply theory to practice by planning, team teaching, and reflecting upon music lessons they presented in class and incorporating the appropriate state of Washington’s Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs)* and K-8 Endorsement Competencies Aligned with the Course.
